Becoming a Resident

Montana Drivers License: Within 60 days of living in Montana you need to apply for a driver’s license.  Two forms of identification and proof of home address are required to get your license. Schedule an appointment at 406-444-1772 or online at https://doj.mt.gov/driving/driver-licensing. 

Vehicle Registration: After establishing your Montana residency, vehicles need to be registered through the Department of Motor Vehicles in Kalispell, Montana. Contact them for additional details. 406-756-5690, https://flathead.mt.gov/dmv/, 935 1st Ave West 2nd Floor, Kalispell, MT 59901

Hunting/Fishing License: According to the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, you must reside in the State of Montana for 180 consecutive days and provide proof of residency documents.  For full information on how to get your hunting/fishing license, visit https://fwp.mt.gov/buyandapply/residencyinfo

Garbage and Recycling: The Columbia Falls drop off site is located at 1073 Best Way, Columbia Falls MT 59912.  Open daily 8:00am-5:00pm.  Household recycling available. Contact them at 406-758-5910 with further questions.

Water & Sewer: Contact the City of Columbia Falls at 406-892-4391 for water and sewer hookup information.

Electricity: Flathead Electric Cooperative, based out of Kalispell, provides power for the Flathead Valley.  Contact Flathead Electric at 406-751-4483 or www.flatheadelectric.com. 

Telephone/Internet: Multiple providers offer telephone and internet service in Columbia Falls and surrounding communities.  MontanaSky Networks at 406-752-4335 or www.montanasky.net, Century Link and Spectrum.
